What is Infrared?

Infrared light occurs naturally from the sun and it is felt as warmth by the body. It is the invisible light from the sun’s rays that has the ability to penetrate the body for a host of health benefits.

What is an Infrared Sauna?

Infrared Sauna therapy heats up the body directly rather than just heating the air. It raises the core body temperature and produces a deep, detoxifying sweat at the cellular level where most toxins are stored. Once sweating commences, your sweat will be a more productive sweat, at a lower temperature than typical saunas.

Infrared Sauna Therapy causes a reaction in your body that makes it sweat. Sweat induced from an infrared heat source is comprised of 20% toxins whereas sweat induced from traditional heating systems is comprised of 3% toxins. This is why it’s accurate to say infrared is 7x more detoxifying than traditional heat saunas.

Exercise is a type of hormetic stress, as is cold stress and heat stress. Sitting in a sauna creates heat stress, which causes the body to increase it’s production of heat shock proteins, which help repair damaged proteins and protect DNA.

Infrared’s deep penetrating heat is what most effectively stimulates metabolic activity, which in turn triggers the release of stored toxins through sweat, as well as through the liver and kidneys. “Detoxification has also been shown to be helpful with cholitis, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, auto-immune disease, immune deficiency states, autism, ADD and ADHD.” – Dr. Rachel West

Lyme Disease

People with Lyme Disease tend to have difficulty with one or more of the detoxification pathways. Adding infrared sauna therapy to a Lyme treatment regimen helps the cells to release heavy metals and chemicals and also assists in killing bacteria and viruses living in the body.

By making you sweat and release toxins and increasing your heart rate and in turn, blood flow, Infrared Saunas are an important tool in managing inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and the effects of Lyme Disease.

On a daily basis, our immune systems are constantly fighting to protect our bodies against an abundance of harmful organisms and toxic chemicals that can be found in our food, water and air.  In studies conducted by the British Medical Association, “it has become well known that people who take regular saunas (2-3 per week) reduce their incidence of colds and influenza by over 65%”.

Stress Reduction

Sweating is the body’s safe and natural way to heal and stay healthy. Infrared Sauna therapy promotes relaxation by helping to balance your body’s level of cortisol, your body’s primary stress hormone. The radiant heat generated by the sauna will also help to relax muscles and relieve tension throughout your entire body allowing you to relax and de-stress.

Increased blood flow due to Infrared Therapy delivers fresh nutrients to the skin’s surface and stimulates collagen production, reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles. It is the combination of increased blood circulation and perspiration that provides the foundation for healthier radiant skin.
